THE CORK TRAVELLER CULTURAL AWARENESS TRAINING INITIATIVE (TCAT) WISH
TO CONTRACT A PART TIME, FIXED TERM DEVELOPMENT WORKER TO SUPPORT
SUSTAINING, CONSOLIDATING AND STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE INITIATIVE.
THE PURPOSE OF THE ROLE IS TO STRENGTHEN TCAT ORGANISATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT KEY AREAS OF WORK. THIS WILL INCLUDE:
* Support forward planning including the identification and
achievement of key goals
* Support the development of stronger TCAT organisational structures
* Identify resources required to sustain and develop TCAT
* Identify funding sources & develop appropriate funding
applications towards the above aims (linked to agreement of priorities
with steering group)
* Support the development of an implementation plan for the new
Training for Trainers – planning, structural & financial details
* Supporting the coordinator on TCAT operational matters at key
times
* Jointly work with the SG and the coordinator to achieve these
outputs through a participatory approach that engages & strengthens
the TCAT SG
This once off work should leave a legacy & develop stronger structures
to support TCAT.
KEY OUTCOMES & IMPACT OF THE ROLE
* 3 year strategic plan to include resourcing & structures; framework
& road map for the development and sustaining of TCAT
* Plan to sustain the current work load in relation to demand
* A pathway to progress the new Training for Trainers – based on
pre planning work already completed
* Resourcing & funding needs identified / Relevant funding
applications developed & submitted
TERMS
The worker will be self employed and contracted to TCAT for **Apply on

Flexible working hours and the worker will be required to liase with
the TCAT coordinator & the TCAT SG at regular set times
Contract fee (including associated costs): €**Apply on the
website**K. Renumeration will be made monthly on receipt of an
invoice.
The worker is accountable to the TCAT SG and will provide monthly
updates.
The worker will be supervised by a nominated representative from the
TCAT SG.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION TCAT
Traveller Cultural Awareness Training (TCAT) is a Cork based
initiative that provides quality Traveller led training towards
building culturally competent service provision and challenging racism
and discrimination. TCAT supports service providers to meet their
obligations under the national Equality Frameworks.
TCAT is a shared initiative, co-ordinated by a Steering group of
representatives from four Traveller community development groups in
Cork county: Traveller Visibility Group, Cork Traveller Women’s
Network, Travellers of North Cork, West Cork Travellers, supported by
the SW HSE Traveller Health Unit.
TCAT contracts a part time coordinator and engages a small team of
experienced Traveller trainers (on a sessional basis) to deliver
training to a wide range of agencies
TCAT is an established programme, in operation since **Apply on the
website** and delivers approximately * sessions
per year to key service providers and other stakeholders.
TCAT sessions are typically 3 hours long and co facilitated by 2
experienced Traveller trainers. Sessions are experiential and cover
core content on Traveller culture, identity and history as well as
bespoke information targeted at the learning needs of key service
providers e.g content on Traveller youth needs, Traveller
accommodation, Traveller health etc.
The demand for TCAT training has grown significantly and steadily
since its inception.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate will have
* Proven community development track record, working with
marginalised or minority ethnic groups
* Understanding of Community Development rights based approaches
* Experience of supporting community based organisational
development, including structures, finance, human resources,
management / support structures.
* Proven experience undertaking developmental planning and analysis
work in collaboration with voluntary management group in a community
development context
* Track record securing funding for community initiatives – grant
applications & knowledge of funding opportunities for the community
sector
* Ability to manage own work independently and to work with a team
with flexibility
The worker must share the values of our work (Community development
ethos & Traveller led training) and support our aims.
